About Dr. Donovan
Dr. James Donovan was born in NYC and grew up in Freehold, NJ. He attended Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, NJ. He earned a BS in Biology and General Science from Villanova University in 1979. His medical education was obtained from Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine where he received his doctorate degree in 1983 finishing at the top of his class. Dr. Donovan completed his podiatric surgical residency at The Osteopathic Medical Center of Philadelphia. He was awarded the title of Chief Resident upon completion of his first year.
As an avid minimalist runner, Dr. Donovan has accomplished 3 Marathons in the past 3 years. He is also in pursuit of a "Black Belt" in Shokatan Karate. And his passion is sports medicine.
Dr. Donovan has done many research papers which include, Anatomical studies with "The Intrinsic Lumbricalle Muscles of the Foot" and "Verrucae Plantaris" microbiologic case sudies. He was among the first doctors trained in EPF surgery for heel pain. He also is trained in Shock Wave Therapy.
For over 29 years Dr. Donovan has lived in Toms River with his wife, Diane. He has three grown children Kenneth, Jennifer, and Matthew. He is the proud grandfather of two. His oldest son, Kenneth James Donovan, is also a podiatrist in Kenilworth and Bayonne, NJ.
Dr. Donovan has been practicing Podiatric medicine and surgery in Toms River since 1984. He is a full attending physician and surgeon at St. Barnabas Medical Center. He was recently honored by the hospital with a plaque for his 25 years of service.
